Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament that seals the Christian with the ‘mark’of Jesus’ Spirit. Sealed with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, Christians are empowered to be His faithful ambassadors in good times and also during lives difficulty. Confirmation, besides being one of the seven sacraments is a basic member of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. The other members are: baptism and Holy Communion. The reception of this sacrament is very vital for the completion of baptismal grace. According to CCC 1285 ‘‘by the sacrament of confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.’’

This sacrament, when celebrated separately from baptism often begins with the renewal of baptismal promises and profession of faith by the confirmands.

In our parish, Adults received into the RCIA process as enquirers and persevere to be accepted as candidates receive the three sacraments of Christian initiation after the completion of the RCIA processes. Individuals who were baptized as infants depending on their level in life go through other catechumenate process to receive the sacrament of confirmation.

Baptized adults not yet confirmed should call the parish office for detailed information of the next confirmation preparation and ceremony.
